UPDATED: I’ve also included what I received in my 2023 Amazon Freebie Bundle at the end of this post!

As a first time mom, I’ve totally been at a lost on what items to purchase for my future bundle of joy! Thankfully, there are several sites that offer free welcome boxes once you make a baby registry with them. I’ve tried out a lot of them and compared my favorites below. Some are 100% FREE and others require a purchase first. Read on to find out how you can score legit freebies for your little one!

Target

The Target baby welcome box was the first one I received because you can actually just go and pick it up in store at their guest services desk. First, you need to create a baby registry on their site. You don’t have to add a ton of items and you can keep it private if Target isn’t where you’re actually planning on hosting your baby registry. Once you’ve added a few items to your registry, you can click on the “Benefits” tab and scroll down to free baby welcome kit. You’ll get a code to bring into your local store and show to an associate at the guest services desk. I have been told it’s recommended to call ahead to check on availability first, but my store had plenty! The items I received in my Target welcome box were truly 100% free because no purchase is required to redeem the code.

Here’s what was included in the free baby welcome box I received from Target:

  • 2 10-packs of baby wipes from Honest
  • A sample size (enough for one wash load) of Dreft newborn detergent
  • A 3.4 oz container of Johnson’s Baby Lotion
  • A MAM EasyStart 5 oz. Anti-Colic Baby Bottle
  • A MAM Pacifier
  • A 3-pack of Huggies Size 1 Diapers
  • 1 sample BoogieWipes Saline Nose Wipe
  • A 4oz Dr. Brown’s Anti-Colic Baby Bottle
  • A 10-pack of baby wipes from WaterWipes
  • A Pampers newborn size diaper
  • 2 Lansinoh breast milk storage bags
  • A sample of Palmer’s massage lotion for stretch marks
  • A 6-pack of Pampers Sensitive baby wipes
  • And a few coupons for $1-2 off full-sized versions of some of these products

I liked that this box contained a variety of items (maybe the most out of any of the baby boxes I received) and two different baby bottles for my little one to try!

Walmart

The Walmart welcome box was one of the easiest to secure. All you need to do to be eligible for this box is add a few items to a baby registry and click Claim Welcome box on the main screen. You’ll enter your shipping information and provide the url of the baby registry you created with Walmart. It does mention that the welcome boxes take about a month to be delivered, but I liked that it truly was free!

Here’s what was included in my free Walmart baby box:

  • A Flexy Pacificer from Nanobebe
  • A 3-pack of Huggles diapers in size 1
  • 5 doses of Teething Relief medicine from Camilia
  • A 16-pack of Huggies Natural Care Sensitive Wipes
  • A 1 oz. sample of Dove Baby Lotion
  • A pack of monthly milestone cards for baby’s first year
  • A 1 oz container of Pantene Dry Conditioner Mist (for momma)
  • A sample pack of Suave Smooth Performer Shampoo, Conditioner, and Anti-frizz cream (for momma)

I liked that this box even included a few little hair product samples for momma to pamper herself!

Amazon

Amazon definitely had the most tedious process of qualifying for their baby welcome box. First, you have to be a Prime member to be eligible. If you aren’t a Prime member, you can sign up for a 30 day free trial and it’ll work that way. In order to qualify for the welcome box, Amazon requires you to complete 60% of your registry. This means you can’t just add a few items and call it good. You need to go into each baby registry category and add items specific to that category. It’s not difficult, but it was more time consuming than the other sites. You are also required to have $10 worth of products purchased from your registry (by you or someone else) before you can qualify for the welcome box. And, Amazon makes you wait until the items have been delivered before it shows that you’re eligible. Once you are eligible, add the welcome box to your cart and go to checkout. It’ll show that the welcome box is $35 but there’s a little box you can check to use the $35 promotional credit to make that box free. If you are actually using Amazon for your baby registry, it wouldn’t be a burdensome process and you could just wait until your first gifts are purchased before redeeming the welcome box so that it actually is free to you.

Here’s what I received in the Amazon Baby Welcome Box:

  • A 3-pack of Huggies Special Delivery size 1 diapers
  • A 4 oz Avent baby bottle
  • An 8-pack of Glad quart-size sandwich bags
  • A sample size (enough for one wash load) of Dreft newborn detergent
  • A Flexy Pacificer from Nanobebe
  • A 10-pack of baby wipes from WaterWipes
  • A newborn hat
  • A pair of newborn socks
  • A pair of newborn mittens
  • A 1 oz container of Baby Bum Coconut Balm
  • A 2 oz container of Cetaphil Baby Wash and Shampoo

I liked that this box included a matching set of a hat, socks, and mittens. I definitely wasn’t expecting that!

Babylist

Babylist is the site that I was actually planning on using to host my baby registry so I actually ordered their baby box first. If you aren’t planning on using Babylist, it might not be worth getting the welcome box because there were a lot of hoops to jump through. Just like with Amazon, you or someone else needs to purchase $10 worth of items before you’re eligible for a baby box. I bought a couple baby books because they were cheap and I don’t think we can have too many books. It’s important to note that shipping is an additional $6, so my purchase ended up being closer to $20 rather than $10. Once the minimum $10 purchase threshold has been met, you can click claim my welcome box on the home screen. While the box itself doesn’t cost anything, you will need to pay another $6 for its shipping. So in reality, this “free” baby welcome box actually cost me close to $30. Again, the only reason I got this baby box was because I had planned on using Babylist to host my actual baby registry. We ended up changing our minds and going with Amazon because it makes it easier for friends and family to ship purchases straight to your house.

Here’s what I received in my baby box from Babylist:

  • A 3-pack of Huggies size 1 diapers
  • White onesie size 0-3 months from Burt’s Bees Baby
  • A 4 oz Avent baby bottle
  • 3 breast milk storage bags from Nanobebe
  • A Physioforma Pacifier from Chicco
  • A 10-pack of baby wipes from Honest
  • A pacifier from MAM
  • A full-size (7.2 oz) container of infant formula from Enfamil
  • A Flexy Pacificer from Nanobebe
  • A sample packet of Noodle & Boo Baby Wash & Lotion
  • 4 washable nursing pads from Bamboobies
  • A MAM EasyStart 5 oz. Anti-Colic Baby Bottle
  • A sample of Palmer’s massage lotion for stretch marks
  • A few coupons for a % off other baby products

It also included a 30-pack of $25 off coupons to Shutterfly to give out to your guests at your baby shower, which I thought was a cool idea!

My final thoughts:

In total I received around 5 baby bottles, 13 diapers, 6 pacifiers, 7 packs of wipes, and many more cool items from these four boxes. While this definitely isn’t EVERYTHING that you need for a new baby, it is a good start! I’ve heard that having a few different kinds of baby bottles in the house when baby arrives is really helpful in case they don’t like one particular brand or style, so I’m glad I have a few options. I’m thinking all the sample packs of wipes and diapers will be helpful to stash in our cars and diaper bags too! Some of the products that I received I hadn’t even really thought of or heard about before so I’m also planning on doing my research on some of these miscellaneous items in the next couple of months. I do think that even though you had to make a couple purchases to receive the Amazon and Babylist boxes, the boxes seemed to have more items in them and the items that were included in those boxes seemed to be full-size or nicer brands. However, the things I received in the 100% free Target and Walmart boxes were awesome too!

2023 UPDATE:

With my second pregnancy, the only freebie box that I opted for was the Amazon one. The main reason for this was how easy it was to receive compared to the other options. I had planned on buying a few things anyways, so I added them to a private Amazon “registry” and then purchased them off of the registry myself in order to meet the $10 spending threshold. Here’s what I received in my 2023 Amazon Baby Welcome Box:

  • A 2oz container of Daily Diaper Rash Spray from Munchkin
  • 2 Sample Breastmilk Storage Bags from Lansinoh
  • 2 Sample Disposable Nursing Pads from Lansinoh
  • A 7.5 mL bottle of Vitamin D Drops from Enfamil
  • A half oz sample packet of Skin Therapy Oil from Palmer’s
  • A half oz sample packet of Stretch Mark Lotion from Palmer’s
  • A 1 oz sample of Baby Lotion from CeraVe
  • A 1 oz sample of Baby Wash and Shampoo from CeraVe
  • A MAM 4 oz Anti-colic Baby Bottle
  • A MAM pacifier
  • A unisex 0-3 month baby onesie with animal designs from Carter’s
  • A 0-3 month velcro swaddle from SwaddleMe

I was MOST excited to see the SwaddleMe velcro swaddle in this pack because we used these all the time with Kennedy. Plus they retail for about $10-$15 on their own, so that in itself made the goody bag worth it!
