We’ve all been there. You’re at a holiday dinner with distant family members, hanging out at home with friends, or conversing with classmates before the lecture begins. And then it happens. Someone makes a political comment and your fight-or-flight instincts kick in. At this point, you either aggressively start defending your position or try and change the subject as quickly as possible. Why is it that as fully developed adults, it’s so hard to have a civil conversation comparing our political beliefs? Why is it that we’re so offended when someone disagrees with our viewpoint? I believe that this inherent tendency comes primarily from one thing- misunderstanding. I think that if we took the time to truly appreciate the heart behind our political opponents, we’ll find that we have more in common than we previously thought.

We all believe that our solutions are the best way to solve our nation’s problems. While we might disagree on how to do it, we generally have the same goal in mind which is to help people. We have different views on healthcare, taxes, education, and the environment, but that doesn’t mean one person is right and one person is wrong. Our society functions best when we promote solutions that are compromises from a variety of backgrounds and beliefs. When we understand each other and work together, we get real results.

That’s one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog. In addition to sharing my favorite fashion, beauty, and home décor trends, I’m hoping that by also sharing my opinions on local and national political topics, I can enlighten others who don’t share my beliefs as to why I’m passionate about my viewpoint. The intentions of the political side of this blog are not to insult the other side or pressure you into joining my party, I simply want to share my ideas with people who might disagree with me and encourage others to have conversations with their friends from across the aisle.

Now, not all my posts will be political. I love sharing my latest budget-friendly fashion finds and doing DIY tutorials for home décor projects, but occasionally we’ll be sprinkling in some current event discussions as well.
If you ever have specific questions or suggestions for blog topics, please feel free to leave a reply on one of my posts!
