Every few months, I want to talk about the recent books I’ve read and what I thought of them. I try to have a variety in what I’m reading, mixing in fiction reads with biographies and self-improvement titles. If you ever have any book recommendations for me, please share! Read on for some of the books I’ve read over the last few months and my thoughts.
1. First: Sandra Day O’Connor by Evan ThomasMy favorite book that I read this summer was a biography of a very influential woman in history, Sandra Day O’Connor. Like most people, I considered myself pretty familiar with the impact Justice O’Connor had on history during her time on the Supreme Court. But, I loved this book because it went in-depth into her life before the Supreme Court. I learned a lot about the kind of history she made as a young female politician in Arizona, before hitting the national stage.
2. Love Your Enemies: How Decent People Can Save America from the Culture of Contempt by Arthur BrooksArthur Brooks is the author of my favorite non-fiction book, The Conservative Heart. So, I was really excited to read his newest release. In a time of heightened tension between those with opposing political views, Brooks suggests multiple practical ways we can put aside our differences and find common ground with those across the aisle.
3. The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott FitzgeraldI’ve recently started diving into Fitzgerald’s collection of literary masterpieces. I love Fitzgerald’s style and how his writing can transport you to another time effortlessly. This book follows the story of socialites Anthony Patch, his wife Gloria, and his friends as they navigate life in the 1920’s. It’s an oldie, but a goodie!
